I have received a few inquiries about iPhones not being activated, stuck either in the Welcome Setup, or searching for a network without detecting a carrier. I have isolated the problem to different facts and situations very specific. If you happen to have issues with this, check this post.
There are a few important and must things to do and remember if you are upgrading to iOS 5.0. Specially if you are an iPhone unlocker!
Some of the issues I have been recently involved with are:
IF YOU ARE NOT SURE, DO NOT PROCEED! Taking the risk is always exciting, but always take a risk knowing you have a return point.
iOS IS CURRENTLY A TETHERED JAILBREAK, MEANING YOU SHOULD NOT TURN YOUR DEVICE OFF! Unless you know how to tether boot using a PC, and unless you have one, avoid letting your battery die or turning the device off.
IF YOUR iPHONE DOES NOT ACTIVATE, RE-DO THE PROCESS, AND FLASH THE BASEBAND AGAIN! Some users are experiencing issues activating their phones or making them detect the carrier. In iOS 5.0, the issue seems to be related to the baseband. It is always important that you use the official jailbreak methods though.
If you are experiencing issues still, feel free to tweet me. @ViNnyB0ii

Some of the issues I have been recently involved with are:
- iPhone won't pass activation screen
- iPhone keeps searching for a network, but won't unlock carrier
- iPhone/iPod/iPad stuck at Apple Logo
- iPhone/iPod/iPad won't download Cydia content or updated packages
- Battery drains after Location Services has been properly adjusted
- Among others...
We have to remember that each jailbreak release includes a very specific process. If you attempt to do it differently, things might not work as it should.
Some of the things I have come across since the iOS 5.0 jailbreak release, and some observations I would like to share and believe are extremely important are the following:
ONLY FOLLOW THE JAILBREAKING PROCESS ACCORDING TO THE IPSW THAT WAS DESIGNED FOR! If you attempt to jailbreak iOS 5.0 using "www.jailbreakme.com" or an old version of Pwnage or Sn0wbreeze for example, you will be messing up your device.
YOU SHOULD NEVER CANCEL A JAILBREAKING PROCESS DURING THE BASEBAND FLASHING STEP! If you do so, you will face a complete device mess up. And you will be enjoying of a fancy and expensive iPod touch instead of an iPhone FOREVER!
IF YOU ARE NOT SURE, DO NOT PROCEED! Taking the risk is always exciting, but always take a risk knowing you have a return point.
