As usual, another problem, another fix. There are a few tricks around to transfer content downloaded from Installous so that it can be recognized by iTunes as purchased content. Check this post if you are or have experienced issues backing up your applications downloaded from Installous.
First thing to be aware, is that any content or third party application might not be recognized by iTunes as an authorized application to be backed up. Backed up means, that the application you download directly from your device (iPhone, iPod, iPad), won't be synced with your iTunes Library. Therefore, syncing with your Library will delete those applications that were downloaded directly to your phone.
This post goes specifically to jailbroken devices using Installous to download apps or content. However, most of the troubleshooting steps below might help if you're having problems transferring real purchases from your App Store application in your iPhone to your PC.
This is the scenario:
When you go to your App Store, or Installous and download an application you find interesting, usually you would go to your PC, plug your device and connect to iTunes. If you hit the Sync button in iTunes, you would usually find a message like this.
Common sense suggests that you read the message and hit Transfer. However, the majority of users won't read, select what they feel familiar with and just go with the flow. In this case, "Do not ask me again" and "Don't Transfer" might be a case.
If you don't even get this message asking you to transfer your purchases, then you might be a victim of a mistake like the one described above.
Now, in order to fix this problem and sync your apps from Installous to your iTunes Library, do the following:
1. Make sure you have an updated version of Installous in your device.
2. From Cydia, ensure that you have the AppSync version corresponding to your iOS. Example: AppSync 4.x for 4.1, 4.2, 4.2.1, 4.3.1, etc.
3. Ensure that your iTunes Library has been authorized so that purchased/downloaded content can be transferred. You may authorize up to 5 computers with a single iTunes Account.
5. Simply restore all warnings so that you can then select to Transfer Purchases by default or being prompted when a new app is found in your device.
