1. TomTom.
The first time I purchased the application, I thought about just getting some additional gadgets for my iPhone 3G. I don't have a data plan, so I wouldn't need of TomTom if I had one. However, it called my attention that it wouldn't require WiFi or Data Connectivity in order to use it, and I took the extra mile, and decided to take it. It works perfect on any iPhone, except on 3G or 3Gs running iPad Baseband, and it is true, you DO NOT require internet connectivity. The estimated retail cost is of about $50.00 US Dlls, depending on the package you want to get. You can purchase/download it here.
2. Viber.
This application allows you to make free phone calls to any Viber user, no matter if they're connected to the internet or not. What Viber do, is to store your cellphone number when you register with them. Then, it uses VoIP (Voice over IP) to connect your call to other users (already registered) in Viber. The downside is, if your network broadband is not too good, calls may drop continuously. However, it's pretty cool, I use it to talk to friends using an iPod Touch 4th. The application can be downloaded for free from the App Store. You can purchase/download it here.
3. HeyWire.
HeyWire is a famous application that works pretty much the same as Viber but for text messaging. Viber, WhatsApp and other applications offer the same text messaging option, however, HeyWire gives you a unique phone number (from the US) where you can send messages to. This could have been in 2nd place due to Viber's instability, however, due to its recent upgrade, functions required for basic messaging were removed. The application can be downloaded for free from the App Store. You can purchase/download it here.
4. 8mm Vintage Camera. (3Gs and Above)
This application has a great feeling for those who are/were passionate with video recording. It gives a great feeling when recording an old-like movie, or you can probably film a thriller too. The application is available at the App Store for $1.99 dlls. You can purchase/download it here.
5. Google Search.
This is not just another search engine you use just like Safari's. Google's application brings a slight Android feeling to your searching. Not only that, but it also enables the ability of searching via voice command, or by taking a picture. That's right, I actually got that idea one time ago. Google's mind reading might be released later this year (lol). Good algorithm, and technology at a device. The application is free at the App Store, you may download it here.
7. TuneIn Radio Pro.
Even if it works when network connectivity available, TuneIn Radio allows you to listen to any radio station around the world. Having said, it also lets you listen to the radio while doing other stuff. This thanks to its ability of playback. TuneIn Radio works with the device media player, so that you can do other stuff while listening to the radio. The application costs $0.99 dlls, and can be downloaded here.
8. Kelley's Blue Book Car Guide (KBB.com).
This is the greatest application ever for those willing to buy a car (within the United States for now). If you're also a muscle maniac, you might want to spend nothing on this app. Its' free! You can review any new or used car, watch pictures from interiors and exteriors, read reviews, and find the nearest dealer. I find this an amazing application not due to the fact that it's just cars (I love cars), but that it brings a detailed database to your cellphone. It works with internet connectivity though, but it's pretty practical still. The application is free at the App Store, you may download it here.
9. CNN News.
Those of you that enjoy of every morning having a good ol' coffee next to your newspaper, but you simply can't due to your work activities, CNN News is a good solution for us. You may download either the International, the US version or both, depending on what you want. You may stream videos directly from CNN's server, and be up-to-date with international news. Downside is: Background is black and turns tired to read, but videos are always good. The application is free at the App Store, you may download it here.
10. Infinity Blade.
This game more than entertaining, it brings an absolute turnaround to what we've seen in graphics on any game for iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. Is just like Gears of Wars, seeing that high-definition and detailed in graphics game, is such a good experience in your hands. This game costs $5.99 from the App Store, and you may find it here.
Of course there are thousands of applications, however and as previously mentioned, these are what keeps me involved with my phone in a daily basis. Including more applications being released day by day. I think that's what makes the iPhone a unique device, having the ability to be up to date at no cost, with thousands of customizable apps, in a never ending battle to be always ahead.
